am a website developer in Nelson, New Zealand, who also likes to paint in my spare time. Not only does it keep me sane but it also provides an outlet for my creative thoughts and ideas.
I have painted off-and-on (mostly off) for a number of years because it's always been something I've been okay at, but it seemed like a chore rather than something I enjoyed. However, it was only recently that I realised the reason for my lack of motivation - I wasn't painting the right things. Painting landscapes or boats wasn't inspiring me, so in late 2006 I started painting things that interested me more.
Each painting usually takes me a couple of months, but if I start getting lazy then they can take longer. I'm also self-taught, so I'm probably doing a lot of things the slow way. I usually put in a few hours every day, and like to paint late at night when it's nice and quiet with no distractions.
